Made for Triathletes by Triathletes

XTERRA WETSUITS are designed for triathletes by triathletes. Each one of our owners is a triathlete. When they design a wetsuit, it is going to be a wetsuit that they'll wear. And then we'll personally handle the sale and service of your wetsuit - not some middleman.

XTERRA WETSUITS Timeline

  • 1984

XTERRA WETSUITS founder, Keith Simmons enters and completes his first triathlon while working at one of the world’s first triathlon stores.

  • 1986

Keith Simmons begins retailing the world’s very first triathlon wetsuit brands. (Ironically the best-selling brand was an off shore company which was being distributed nationally and changed hands several times before reaching the retail stores.)

  • 1988

Keith Simmons founds and opens Inside Out Sports, a small chain of triathlon stores on the East Coast and one of the oldest triathlon stores in the United States.

  • 1995

Keith Simmons purchases the rights to the name Ironman wetsuits for North America and begins designing triathlon wetsuits utilizing new materials and technology.

  • 2001

Keith Simmons creates XTERRA WETSUITS with a new global distribution plan using materials never used in a triathlon full suit which maximized flexibility, buoyancy, and performance.

  • 2002

XTERRA WETSUITS introduces the Vector Pro wetsuit which subsequently went on to win more Ironman triathlons and is used by more Ironman World Champions than any other suit.

  • 2006

XTERRA WETSUITS revolutionizes triathlon wetsuit sales in the USA by selling directly to triathletes which provides the end-user a higher performing product at a better value.

  • 2007

Keith Simmons brings on two new business partners, formally attorneys with entrepreneur spirit and background with a passion for triathlon. XTERRA WETSUITS introduces the Vendetta wetsuit with the resources obtained by the new partnership, and is first out of the water at the Ironman World Championships in Kona with a newly designed speedsuit. The new business partners begin to refer to their alliance as the “trifecta”. We launch the Velocity 0.02 at the Ironman World Championship and have the fastest swim of the day, and launch the new VectorProX2 at the 70.3 World Championship and have the fastest swim of the day.

  • 2008

XTERRA WETSUITS introduce the Velocity ++ long-legged speedsuit; wins Kona again, and also have the first, second & third fastest age-group swims of the day at the Ironman World Championship. At the 70.3 World Championship, we had the fastest overall swim (and new course record), as well as the first, second and third fastest age-group swims.

  • 2010

XTERRA WETSUITS introduces the VOLT - the first $99 high performance-quality triathlon wetsuit. The VOLT matches up technically to competing products at more than twice the price. Only XTERRA WETSUITS can offer this pricing advantage due to their direct to the triathlete business model.
